Night Light Winter Shelter - A Heartfelt Thank You!

As we wrap up another season of the Basingstoke Night Light Winter Shelter, we want to take a moment to reflect on all that’s been achieved and express our deepest gratitude to everyone who made it possible.  

Over the past 90 nights (from 1st December 2024 to 28th February 2025), an incredible 144 volunteers have come together to provide warmth, care, and support to those in need. Collectively, they have covered 6,382 hours, with the average volunteer giving 44 hours of their time. A special mention goes to the ten volunteers who each gave over 100 hours, and the 18 volunteers who covered half of all shifts between them—your commitment has been truly inspiring!  

The impact of this work has been remarkable. We received 57 referrals, with 36 guests staying at the shelter at least one night. More importantly, 19 guests have now moved into accommodation, and an additional 8 people were housed before they even needed to stay with us. On average, guests stayed 21 nights before securing accommodation, and in total, the shelter provided 783 bed nights of warmth and safety.  

A huge thank you goes out to the churches of Basingstoke, not only for providing venues but also for encouraging their communities to step up and get involved. Your generosity in offering space and encouraging volunteers has made such a difference.  

The local council has also expressed their overwhelming gratitude, recognising the incredible impact this project has had on some of the most vulnerable people in our community. Their words of thanks are a testament to the love and care shown by every single volunteer and supporter.  

So, from the bottom of our hearts—thank you. Whether you served meals, stayed overnight, set up beds, prayed, donated, or simply encouraged others to get involved, you’ve played a part in changing lives. Let’s continue to pray for all those who have been helped, and for the ongoing work of Night Light Winter Shelter in Basingstoke.
